Career Acceleration Programme Cohort Two: I&M Foundation and Pitman Training Kenya Invest in Job-Ready Skills
On 4 May 2026, Pitman Training Kenya launched the second cohort of the Career Acceleration Programme (CAP) in Nairobi, in partnership with the I&M Foundation. The programme gives five young Kenyans from vulnerable communities fully funded access to practical career training designed to strengthen employability, confidence and workplace readiness.
The induction brought together Naomi Cheres, representing the I&M Foundation; Simon Njoroge, representing PalmHouse Foundation; Shakeel Hassanali, Managing Director of Pitman Training Kenya; and Paul Lewis, Managing Director of Pitman Training Group in the UK. Their presence reflected a shared commitment to creating career pathways through practical skills development and access to recognised professional training.
What is the Career Acceleration Programme (CAP) in Kenya?
CAP is a youth employability and career-development initiative delivered by Pitman Training Kenya in Nairobi. Cohort Two, launched with I&M Foundation on 4 May 2026, provides five young Kenyans from vulnerable communities with fully funded access to the Administrative Assistant Diploma, communication masterclasses and a structured career toolkit.
What is Pitman Training Kenya’s Career Acceleration Programme?
The Career Acceleration Programme is a career development and youth employability initiative delivered by Pitman Training Kenya. For its second cohort, CAP combines the Pitman Training Administrative Assistant Diploma with specialised communication masterclasses and a structured career toolkit.
The aim is to help scholars build the technical, digital and professional skills employers expect in modern workplaces while also developing the confidence to present themselves effectively when pursuing employment opportunities.
The partnership with I&M Foundation supports this goal through fully funded scholarships for the five CAP scholars. I&M Foundation’s wider education and skills development work focuses on expanding access to learning and scholarship opportunities, making the CAP partnership a natural fit around employability and career progression.
What skills will CAP scholars develop?
At the centre of the programme is Pitman Training’s Administrative Assistant Diploma. The diploma develops practical office administration skills for careers such as Administrative Assistant, Office Administrator, Receptionist and Executive Assistant.
Current Pitman Training course content includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams, touch typing, professional document creation, organisation and effective business communication. These capabilities are highly transferable across sectors because administrative professionals often support communication, coordination, documentation, scheduling and day-to-day business operations.
CAP adds communication-focused development and a structured career toolkit to the diploma pathway. Together, these elements are designed to help learners move beyond academic knowledge and build workplace-ready skills they can demonstrate with confidence.
Why do job-ready skills matter for the youth in Kenya?
For young people entering the job market, a qualification is only part of the employability equation. Employers also need people who can use digital tools, communicate professionally, manage time, organise information, collaborate with others and adapt to workplace expectations.
That is why career training in Nairobi increasingly needs to connect learning with real work requirements. By combining an internationally recognised diploma with communication and career development support, CAP helps create a clearer bridge between training and employment.
The programme also demonstrates how businesses, foundations and training providers can work together to widen access to professional skills. When young people can gain practical qualifications without the barrier of training costs, they have a stronger opportunity to compete for internships, entry-level roles and longer-term career progression.
